Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has unveiled a ₹30,000-crore investment plan to expand the Vizhinjam International Seaport, reinforcing its ambition to position the facility as a global transshipment hub. The announcement was made during the inauguration of capacity augmentation works for Phases II, III and IV by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal. As part of the development programme, ₹16,000 crore has been earmarked for Phase II alone. Once completed, the port’s capacity will scale up from 1 million–5.7 million TEUs by 2029. The expansion will deliver India’s longest continuous container berth at 2 km and extend the breakwater to 3.88 km, marking a major step in establishing Vizhinjam as India’s next global maritime gateway.
