DHL and IAG Cargo announced an agreement to use only 240 million litres of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for DHL shipments. In a statement, DHL Express stated, “This agreement shows what is possible when two committed SAF users in the industry pool their efforts.” The agreement aims to reduce a lifecycle GHG emissions 640,000 tonnes of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent). The 2021 DHL’s Sustainability Roadmap focuses on scaling the usage of SAF. SAF is derived from sources such as cooking oil and food waste, it can achieve lower lifecycle emissions in comparison to conventional jet fuel.
