During a high-level logistics convention, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, outlined India’s roadmap to transform its logistics ecosystem into a global benchmark for efficiency and scale. He said the government has set a target to reduce logistics costs from 14–16 per cent of GDP to 9 per cent, supported by an investment of ₹1 lakh crore in multimodal logistics infrastructure. He also highlighted improvements in project efficiency, citing that travel times on key corridors have been reduced from 9 hours to just 2.25 hours, reflecting a focus on speed and execution. Emphasising the economic multiplier effect of infrastructure, he noted every ₹100 invested can generate ₹321 in GDP impact, underscoring the strategic importance of connectivity-led growth. Outlining the vision for ‘Logistics 3.0,’ he said India’s transformation is guided by four pillars — speed, scale, sustainability, and smart technology.
