FedEx along with IIT Madras has completed India’s first intra-city drone delivery trials in Bengaluru, marking a advancement in next-generation logistics. Conducted under the FedEx SMART Centre research framework, the trials validated a mid-mile aerial route linking Electronic City Phase II, with a site near Kempegowda International Airport. The initiative demonstrated the efficiency of drone-based logistics in urban environments, reducing a 53-km-long road journey to an aerial distance of 39 to 42 km, with transit times cut by 21 minutes. The trials highlight the potential to ease congestion and enhance time-critical deliveries.
