The Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway has dispatched its first cargo train carrying dairy products to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), marking a milestone in freight movement from Gujarat to the Valley. The consignment, prepared for the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (Amul), was loaded at Linch Railway Station. The train comprised 20 wagons divided into two segments. Ten wagons were routed to Bari Brahmana, while the remaining were sent to Anantnag under the Jammu Tawi Division of Northern Railway. This initiative is part of a broader push to transport perishable goods over long distances via rail. Officials noted that the movement generated freight revenue of ₹24.62 lakh. With dairy products now being shipped by rail, the move is expected to ensure a more consistent supply to remote regions, such as J&K, while reducing reliance on road transport.
