‘Frozen shrimp leads India’s expanding seafood trade’

Balagopal-Balachandran

Balagopal Balachandran, National Head Air Freight, FEI Cargo said, “India’s seafood exports touched a record ₹72,325.82 crore ($8.28 billion) in FY 2025-26, growing 11.2% year-on-year with exports of 19.32 lakh MT. Andhra Pradesh remains the backbone of this success, contributing over 30% of India’s marine exports through its strong aquaculture ecosystem and nearly 1.4 lakh Vannamei shrimp farmers. Frozen shrimp led the segment, while products like squid, cuttlefish, crabs, Seabass, and Murrel fish also gained global demand. Although the US remains the largest market and while the tariff hit hard exporters successfully diversified into China,  EU, and Southeast Asia. For freight forwarders, this growth highlights rising opportunities in temperature-controlled logistics, multimodal connectivity, and time sensitive cargo handling. India’s seafood boom is now equally a logistics success story.”
