India’s latest forward-looking Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with New Zealand promises to boost trade between the two nations substantially. Trade between the two countries has shown strong momentum in recent years. Merchandise trade rose sharply from USD 873 million in 2023–24 to USD 1.3 billion in 2024–25, registering nearly 49 per cent growth in a single year. India’s merchandise exports reached USD 711 million during this period, reflecting a healthy increase of 32 per cent. Services trade has also expanded steadily, with India’s services exports—particularly in travel, information technology, and business services—growing by 13 per cent in 2024 to reach USD 634 million. Over the past decade, bilateral merchandise trade has increased from USD 855 million in 2015–16 to nearly USD 1.3 billion in 2024–25, with India’s exports growing far faster than imports, allowing India to maintain a positive trade balance.
