JSW Infrastructure has started cargo operations at its Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal located in Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu. The activities began after getting the nod from Chennai Division of Indian Railways. The move is intended to consolidate India’s multi-modal infrastructure progress. JSW Infrastructure was awarded the project in June 2024, while the operations became effective from 14 April. The commencement of commercial operations at Arakkonam reflects a push to the multimodal infrastructure development of India since rail-connected cargo terminals play a significant role in reducing freight movement costs and streamlining the supply chain. The Arakkonam facility is strategically located near Chennai, one of India’s major industrial hubs, therefore making it an important logistics centre for southern India. The step aims to improve multimodal connectivity and accelerate economic growth.
