India–China air cargo linkage has taken a significant step forward with IndiGo launching a dedicated freighter service between Kolkata and Kunming on April 20. Operated thrice weekly, the A321F, the route strengthens trade lanes between eastern India and southwest China, said Gince Kuruvilla Mattam, Consul General of Consulate General of India in Guangzhou. The inaugural inbound flight carried 9 tonnes of crabs, while the outbound leg transported over 21 tonnes of general cargo, highlighting bilateral demand. This new corridor is set to speed up the movement of perishables, e-commerce, and industrial goods, enhancing supply chain efficiency across the region. “IndiGo has emerged as India’s leading airline in terms of both passenger traffic and fleet size, with its CarGo network covering South Asia and extending to countries across Asia and Europe. The Kolkata-Kunming cargo route links China’s gateway to South and Southeast Asia with the logistics hub in eastern India. It serves as a logistics express lane and as an important bridge for China-India economic and trade cooperation.”
