The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has joined hands with Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) through a Memorandum of Understanding to improve coordination between road and rail transport systems and strengthen the country’s logistics ecosystem. The alliance seeks to overcome inefficiencies arising from disjointed infrastructure and inadequate last-mile connectivity by aligning highway development with rail planning. Under the agreement, both organisations will collaborate on setting up multimodal logistics parks and intermodal facilities, while jointly designing infrastructure solutions that enhance freight movement. The partnership also includes plans for innovative projects such as combined road–rail bridges and tunnels in difficult geographies, aimed at reducing travel time and enabling smoother, faster cargo movement.
