Shifting freight from air/road to rail or waterways generally extends delivery timelines due to lower average speeds and the need for, or reliance on, intermodal, multi-step handling. While rail and water offer higher capacity and lower emissions, they typically increase transit times, requiring advanced inventory planning to manage slower, less flexible schedules.”
