Tamil Nadu is reworking its strategy for a proposed MMLP in Chennai, shifting from a storage-centric model to an integrated, end-to-end freight movement system. Officials indicated the planned hub near Panjetty will facilitate direct cargo transfers between ports and industries, reducing reliance on traditional transit warehousing. The move reflects a broader transition away from container freight stations, with emphasis on Direct Port Delivery and Direct Port Entry mechanisms. Authorities highlighted the need to align the project with evolving customs reforms, including the Authorised Economic Operator programme and pre-clearance systems, to minimise cargo dwell time. The overhaul aims to modernise logistics operations and better match emerging trade and supply chain dynamics.
