UPS has officially phased out the MD-11Fs and will replace them with Boeing 767Fs. The decision follows last year’s fatal crash and the subsequent grounding of the MD-11 fleet, prompting UPS to accelerate its fleet modernisation strategy. In its latest earnings release, UPS confirmed that five Boeing 767Fs are scheduled for delivery in the first half of this year, with an additional 10 aircraft expected in the second half. Three more units are planned for delivery in 2027. “The airline remains a critical component of the company’s global network. UPS has followed a structured, long-term approach for fleet renewal and, as part of that strategy, decided to retire all MD-11 aircraft and replace much of the capacity with newer, more fuel-efficient Boeing 767Fs over the coming year,” said Carol Tomé, Chief Executive, UPS, while addressing the company’s Q4 earnings call on 27 January.
